Paper is often used as the cover material for paperback (including horseback riding) books and magazines, and composite materials are also used. In addition to specialized paper, strong adhesive or copperplate paper can also be used for cover paper. The cover paper is mostly 100-180g/m2, and the selection should be based on the thickness of the book and the size of the opening. When the opening is large and the book core is thick, the cover paper should be correspondingly thicker, otherwise it should be thinner. The choice of cover paper is also related to the printing method. When using relief printing, the flatness of the paper surface should meet the general requirements. When using offset printing, the flatness of the paper is required to be higher. If it is a fine color printing cover, it is best to use super calendered paper (copperplate paper). For books with high frequency of use (such as dictionaries, manuals, other reference books, etc.), film coating treatment can be carried out to increase their strength. Soft composite materials have high strength and are commonly used in paperback books, but their cost is relatively high and they are currently only used in frequently used reference books.
