Folding Assembly
With the development of society and the increasing demand for reading books, many drawbacks of scroll packaging have gradually been exposed, and it can no longer meet the new needs. If you want to read the middle and back parts of the graded scroll packaging books, you have to open them from the beginning and roll them up again after reading, which is very troublesome. The emergence of folding packaging has greatly facilitated reading and easy access.
The specific method is:
Fold a long scroll along the middle of the text layout, one in reverse and one in straight, to form a rectangular stack, and paste cardboard or wooden boards on the first and last pages respectively. Its binding form is very different from scroll binding, and its shape is very similar to today's books. It has been used for framing in calligraphy, painting, stone inscriptions, and other fields until today.
Spiral wind equipment
Spiral wind binding is a binding form of ancient Chinese books, also known as "whirlwind leaf" or "dragon scale binding".
This form already existed in the mid Tang Dynasty. Its form is: long paper as the base, the first leaf is fully mounted on the top of the roll, and the scales from the second leaf onwards are mounted to the left on the bottom roll. Its characteristic is that it is easy to browse and beneficial for protecting book leaves. Perhaps the books that are folded and packaged are easily scattered, or there are some inconveniences for monks when reciting scriptures, and people do not improve them on the basis of folding and packaging.
The ancients folded a large piece of paper in half, glued one half to the first page, and wrapped the other half from the right side of the book to the back, connecting it to the last page, making it a connected whole like a sleeve; Read from the first page to the last page, and then to the first page, so as to repeat the scripture in a loop and sing continuously; When the wind blows, the pages of the book fly like a whirlwind, hence it is vividly called a swirling wind costume. Due to a lack of sufficient information, there is currently no unified view in the academic community regarding the shape of the spiral wind cover. One opinion is that the spiral wind cover is a folded book that is then covered with half of a piece of paper, with the first leaf of the book glued together and the last leaf of the book glued together. The entire piece of paper wraps the first and last leaves of the book together with the back of the book. Another view is that the whirlwind package is used to copy books one by one, and then sequentially stick them one by one like fish scales on a scroll style base paper. When winding up, the book leaves rotate in one direction like a whirlwind, so it is also called a whirlwind roll.
