1. Craft and equipment for flat binding
The binding of paperback books mainly refers to the processing of the packaging process. Baoben is a complete paperback book that wraps a book block that has been ordered or locked onto a cover. Including the operation process of manual packaging, machine packaging, back ironing, and mouth tightening. Flat packaging, also known as bag cover, upper cover, foreskin, leather wrap, etc. There are two types of covers for paperback books and magazines: those with a "notch" and those without a "notch". There is a significant difference in the binding process between 'strangulation' and 'non strangulation'. A plain book without a "zipper" is first wrapped in a cover and then cut three sides into a glossy version; The 'Le Kou' paperback book involves first cutting the book core and then wrapping it with a cover, folding the wider part of the cover inside the cover, and finally cutting the top and bottom of the book into a glossy version. From this, it can be seen that having a "Le Kou" paperback book adds two additional processes compared to not having a "Le Kou" paperback book.
(1) Le Kou and Fu Kou. Clerks and compound mouths are a processing form of flat binding, generally suitable for some delicate flat bound books and periodicals. Their function is to protect the book core and extend the service life of the book. Due to the small number of books and periodicals processed with cuffs and compound mouths, almost all of them are completed manually at present
(2) Hot back work and requirements. The process of ironing and pressing a book with a covered cover to flatten, compact, and secure the spine. The main methods of back ironing are flat ironing and rolling ironing, which are mainly completed by a back ironing machine. When using a flat ironing machine for back ironing, the back of the book is facing down, squeezed left and right, and pressure is applied from above to make the back of the book tightly against the heating platform below. Under the action of the heating platform, the adhesive on the back of the book is dried and the back of the book is ironed flat. This method has a slow back ironing speed and a long drying time. The glue squeezed out from both ends of the book will stick to the pages and dirty platform, causing damage to the surface of the back of the book. When using a rolling back ironing machine, the back of the book is facing up, pressed back and forth, and sent to the back ironing area. The back ironing area is heated by a group of heaters
Composed of steel rollers. When ironing the back, the workbench holds the book in a reciprocating motion. After several rounds of rolling back and forth, the glue can be dried and the book back can be ironed flat. This method of ironing the back is faster and has a larger volume of books. The upper pressure plate and the two side book clamping plates are simultaneously pressed and clamped towards the direction of the book, and after a certain period of time, the brake is released to lift the upper pressure plate and release the clamping plate. Take out the heated book and stand it upright. After inspection, stack it on the book stacking platform and complete the back ironing operation. When stacking, the books should be neatly arranged, and the back of the book should not be exposed to avoid damaging the partially dry book back and affecting the appearance quality of the book.
(3) Handmade bag. The process of manually wrapping the cover around the book block to create a book booklet. There are two types of handmade packaging by Shenzhen brochure printing manufacturers: one is the older old-fashioned method, which involves five processes: folding the cover, brushing the adhesive, sticking the cover (or gluing), brushing the back adhesive, and wrapping the surface. One is a relatively modern manual operation method, which combines the first five dispersed processes for processing. This operation is commonly known as the "Five in One" packaging method, which greatly improves production efficiency. The folding cover is widely used by operators, which involves cutting the printed cover into appropriate sizes according to certain specifications, and then folding the cover back on one side of the book thickness that is flush with the spine edge (folding the front inward). There are two ways to manually fold the cover after folding, which are along the spine of the book and the regular line on the back of the book. One is to first make a folding panel with copper foil, and then place a stack of covers (usually 100 sheets) horizontally on the workbench with the front facing up. The left hand holds the folding panel and aligns it with the folding line according to a certain rule, and the right hand lifts a cover from the right side, folding and compacting the edge of the folding panel. The left hand lifts the folding panel and the cover, and the right hand pulls out the folded cover and places it on the workbench on the right side; One method is to use the thumb of the left hand to press down on the crease line (instead of folding the folded plate), and use the right hand to fold the seam line and align it with the upper and lower regular edges for folding. If there are no words, frames, or patterns on the back of the book, you can also use the method of folding them one by one and then pulling them out one by one. This method is faster, but the accuracy is not as good as folding them one by one, so it cannot be used uniformly.
(4) The working principle and operation method of the package machine. According to the external shape of the packaging machine, it is divided into linear (also known as long strip) packaging machine and disc-shaped packaging machine. When operating the linear bag machine, it can be used alone or connected with the machine to form a package linkage machine for processing. It is mostly used for processing thin books and periodicals, and can be used in both single and double pairs. Thicker books are usually processed using disc type wrapping machines or wireless binding machines.
① Long strip bag machine. The operation process of the long strip packaging machine includes feeding and conveying, brushing adhesive, conveying cover and groove positioning, packaging cover, and receiving inspection.
② Disc shaped bag machine. When the disc-shaped bag machine is in operation, it mainly uses the rotating conveyor of the large chuck to pack the bag. At present, the disc-shaped bag machine adopts uniform intermittent rotation motion, and packs one book per interval, using manual continuation method to enter the book. Before operating the disc-shaped bag machine, the various regular positions should be adjusted according to the thickness and size of the books and periodicals, and the adhesive should be prepared and heated to stack the covers neatly. The operation process includes feeding, conveying, brushing adhesive, sticking covers, clamping, and receiving books.
2. Quality standards for packaging
(1) Before packing the book, it is necessary to check whether the title, volume, and book cover of the book are consistent and identical, and avoid making false claims
(2) The adhesive used should be prepared and used according to the paper of the cover and the thickness of the book block to ensure the adhesion between the book block and the book cover. The adhesive should be evenly applied, and the width of the paste should not exceed 4mm to cover the binding steel and line marks.
(3) The characters in the book should be neat, the frame lines should be straight, accurate and correct, the back should be tight, without falling up or down (i.e. protruding or entering the head), and there should be no loose sleeves, so that there are no wrinkles or lines behind the ironing.
3. Cutting process and equipment
Paper cutting machinery is divided into two categories: single-sided paper cutting machines and three sided book cutting machines. The three sided book cutting machine is mainly used to cut various finished books and magazines. Although single-sided paper cutting machines and three sided book cutting machines have different structures, their cutting principles and main components are basically the same.
(1) Single sided paper cutter.
As the main component of the paper cutter, the paper pusher is used as a rule to push and position the paper; The paper compactor presses the positioned paper tightly to prevent movement during cutting and affecting the cutting quality; Knife blades are usually used to protect the cutting edge and ensure that the underlying paper can be completely cut through to ensure quality. In addition, there is a side guard gauge that forms a right angle with the paper pusher to ensure that the adjacent edges of the paper being cut are perpendicular to each other.
(2) Three sided book cutting machine
Cutting a book refers to the process of folding, matching, binding, and packaging printed pages, and then cutting off the three edges to create a book. Cutting books is the final process in flat packaging processing. Cutting books also includes the cutting of semi-finished hardcover book cores and the cutting of duplex books (commonly known as broken sections or pages). The machines used are mainly three sided book cutters, supplemented by single-sided paper cutters. Due to different models, the operation methods of three sided book cutting machines vary, including manual three sided book cutting machines, semi-automatic three sided book cutting machines, and automatic three sided book cutting machines. The manual three sided book cutting machine uses the rotation of the movable book holder and the downward pressure of the single-sided book cutter to cut the book side by side until all three sides are cut. When operating, knock a stack of books to be cut (about 150-200mm high) together and place them on the manual three sided knife movable clamp board. Then, clamp the upper pressure plate in a regular manner and move or step on the knife to cut one side. Then, shake the movable book holder by hand and turn it to the other side before cutting, until all three sides are cut. This type of book cutting machine has high labor intensity and low efficiency.
(3) The automatic three sided book cutting machine is more advanced in the input method of cutting products than the semi-automatic three sided book cutting machine. It uses an automatic book feeding device to feed the stacked rough books into the cutting station, continuously cutting their three edges at once and automatically sending them out.
