The development direction of green packaging in packaging factories

Green packaging is undoubtedly the future direction of packaging development. From a technical perspective, green packaging refers to an environmentally friendly packaging developed from natural plants and related minerals that is harmless to the ecological environment and human health, conducive to recycling, easy to degrade, and sustainable.

In other words, the entire lifecycle of its packaging products, from raw material selection, product manufacturing to use and disposal, should meet the requirements of ecological environment protection. Green packaging should be achieved from the aspects of green packaging materials, packaging design, and vigorous development of the green packaging industry.

Non polluting, recyclable or recycled packaging materials and products should be used during the packaging process. That is to say, the entire process of packaging products, from raw material selection, product manufacturing, use to recycling and disposal, meets the requirements of ecological and environmental protection. It includes content that meets ecological and environmental protection requirements, such as saving materials and resources, reducing or avoiding the generation of waste, being easy to recycle or regenerate, and being incineratable or degradable.

(1) Laboratory construction is of utmost importance

So far, many domestic manufacturers, including large enterprises such as Haier, have hardly established their own independent laboratories or packaging departments, so it is impossible to talk about implementing green packaging strategies. Only in the laboratory can one discover their own shortcomings in the production process, adjust production processes in a timely manner, which is more conducive to enterprises quickly embarking on the "green" path and improving the reputation of their products in the market.

(2) Packaging design should highlight environmental protection and green design concepts

Firstly, packaging designers should try to use green packaging materials and design long-lasting packaging materials, which can greatly reduce the environmental pollution caused by packaging waste.

Secondly, packaging should be reduced in quantity, packaging materials should be standardized, and packaging design should be detachable.

In some developed countries, many supermarkets encourage consumers to use reusable nylon shopping bags instead of disposable plastic bags, eliminate unnecessary packaging as much as possible, and promote simple packaging to save resources. The standardization of packaging materials requires the use of materials that are as simple as possible, without mixing with different materials, in order to facilitate recycling. Packaging that requires a composite material structure should be designed as a detachable structure, which is conducive to recycling after disassembly. Again, pay attention to the reuse of packaging materials. Adopting recyclable, reusable, and reusable packaging to increase the lifecycle of packaging materials and reduce packaging waste. Finally, the harmlessness of packaging materials. The European Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive specifies levels of heavy metal content.

China should also legislate to prohibit or reduce the use of packaging materials containing harmful substances such as lead, mercury, tin, etc., and establish allowable levels of heavy metals to protect the health of its citizens.

(3) Strengthen technological innovation, promote green revolution, research and develop new environmentally friendly and pollution-free green packaging materials

Green packaging materials themselves must be harmless to human health, not cause pollution to the ecological environment, and be easy to recycle or return to nature through environmental degradation. Currently, with the advancement of technology and people's deep understanding of the environment, many green packaging materials have been developed. The green packaging of reusable and renewable packaging materials, edible packaging materials, biodegradable materials, paper materials, natural materials, and low-energy materials has dual meanings of environmental protection and resource regeneration. While reducing pollution and protecting the environment, it is necessary to maximize resource conservation.

(4) Establish a network for recycling and reusing packaging waste, develop the packaging post production industry, and vigorously promote the recycling and utilization of packaging waste

The key to developing green packaging is to do a good job in researching and developing green packaging materials and recycling packaging waste. From the perspective of environmental protection and resource conservation, the latter is more important due to its large and extensive quantity. The key to recycling packaging waste is to establish a packaging waste recycling network and develop the packaging post industry. The state should also provide preferential support policies for the construction of the renewable resource recycling system in terms of finance, taxation, construction land, industrial and commercial management, vehicle maintenance fees, labor protection, technological transformation, and innovation. The construction of a recycling operation system will have a significant impact on the development of green packaging and the construction of a circular economy society in China. The country should promptly introduce relevant legislation on the construction and operation of a network system for the recycling and utilization of packaging waste (renewable resources).

(5) Vigorously promote the reuse of packaging

Reusing packaging multiple times is the most efficient way to fully utilize resources, achieve the highest resource utilization rate, reduce usage costs, and achieve the best economic performance. Therefore, any packaging that can be reused should be reused. for this

Firstly, materials (products) that can be used multiple times should be selected during design. The General Office of the State Council has issued a notice on restricting the production, sale, and use of plastic shopping bags, prohibiting the production, sale, and use of plastic bags with a thickness less than 0.025 millimeters that are intended for one-time use. It advocates for environmentally friendly paper bags, cloth bags, and thick plastic bags that can be used multiple times; Composite materials that are not easily recyclable should be used sparingly if they can meet the functional requirements.

Secondly, establish a storage return system. Many countries require the use of reusable containers for beer, soft drinks, and mineral water. Consumers deposit a certain deposit with the store when making a purchase, and the store will refund the deposit when returning the container in the future. Beverages and beer bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate PET, glass, etc. can be reused multiple times after sterilization and disinfection processes. Some countries have also expanded this system to the production and consumption of detergents and paints, and enacted laws mandating the recycling or utilization of packaging materials.

Thirdly, use logistics packaging containers that can be reused multiple times. China Mobile has replaced a large number of wooden boxes with modular container turnover racks, established a reusable logistics system, and achieved significant results in saving wood resources, electricity, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
