In our work of producing high-end gift boxes, packaging boxes, boutique boxes, tea packaging boxes, mooncake packaging boxes, chocolate boxes, cake boxes, etc., there is a need to communicate with colleagues and customers. We must be familiar with the basic material knowledge of these packaging boxes, or we also need to train new colleagues on these necessary knowledge when they join. Below, I will briefly introduce the commonly used paper:
Introduction to Customized Materials for Premium Packaging Boxes
1. Copperplate paper: Copperplate paper belongs to pure wood pulp paper. The face paper of gift boxes is usually made of 128g, 157g, and 200g copperplate paper, printed in four colors, and can be printed in spot colors; The most commonly used paper for making gift boxes is 157g paper, because firstly, the paper has a certain thickness and when mounted on a gray board, the surface of the box looks smoother and more even. Secondly, it is also easy to corner and wrap the box, and can protrude but not significantly; Can be hot pressed with gold or silver; The surface can also be silk screened. For those with obvious protrusions, you can choose 200g copperplate paper. Double sided printing, commonly known as double-sided copper plates, is commonly used for promotional materials, calendars, and other items that require double-sided printing.
2. White cardboard: White cardboard belongs to pure wood pulp paper. Due to its thick thickness and high bending elasticity, white cardboard is generally not used as a surface paper. However, customers require it to be raised and have a clear hand feel. They can choose 230g (210g is difficult to purchase) white cardboard. But it's difficult to paste, so it's generally not recommended for customers to do so. White cardboard is commonly used for handbag printing, with 230g and 250g sizes commonly used. 300g sizes are also acceptable, but due to the thickness of the paper, it is not easy to fold and is generally not used unless specifically requested by the customer.
3. Gold and silver cardboard: A commonly used 157g copperplate backing paper for making surface paper from gold and silver cardboard. The printed effect of this type of gold and silver cardboard is better than that of copperplate paper, with a metallic texture. The surface can be printed with four-color printing, hot stamping with gold or silver, or silk screen printing. It is best to apply a layer of film after printing on gold and silver cardboards to prevent ink loss and scratches. If the gold and silver cardboards are raised, the effect will be better. If the base paper is 250g and 300g whiteboard paper, it is generally used to make handbags or other cardboard folding boxes. Laser paper (with plain surface, light column, and various patterns) is one of the types of gold and silver cards.
4. Specialty paper: Premium gift boxes are usually made of 110-120 grams. Special paper is generally difficult to print due to surface treatment reasons. If the surface is smooth, it can be printed, but the color after printing is slightly gray compared to copperplate paper, and the color is not as bright as copperplate paper. In addition, it is not suitable for large-area ink printing. Specialty paper is susceptible to the influence of air moisture and is prone to wrinkling, resulting in a higher printing waste rate of 30-50 sheets per print compared to copperplate paper. Due to the low content of wood pulp in most special paper, its tensile strength is poor, brittleness is high, and it is not suitable for laminating. Therefore, after being glued and pasted with density board, it is easy to cause edge damage and fracture.
5. Double adhesive paper: mainly used for printing books and magazines, mostly used as inner stickers in gift boxes for heaven and earth covers, with a weight generally between 80 grams and 120 grams. We usually use white double glue and colored double glue, and 100g paper is more effective.
