插圖是圖形圖像在書籍設計中的具體應用,與書籍中的文字和諧相生,相得益彰。我國書籍設計中對插圖的運用由來已久,清人葉德輝在《書林清話》中說“古人以圖書並稱,凡有書必有圖。”

插圖是圖形圖像在書籍設計中的具體應用,與書籍中的文字和諧相生,相得益彰。我國書籍設計中對插圖的運用由來已久,清人葉德輝在《書林清話》中說“古人以圖書並稱,凡有書必有圖。”

可見,插圖與書籍設計早就不可分離。從古至今,我國書籍設計中不乏優秀的插圖藝術:陳老蓮繪制的《西廂記》《水滸》,黃永玉繪制的《阿詩瑪》套色木刻,李培戈為《黃河東流去》繪制的寫實素描插圖,程十發的《儒林外史》人物的傳統線描,戴敦邦為《紅樓夢》譯文本創作的36幅插圖等等都堪稱傳世佳作。這些插圖藝術的成功得之於優秀畫家深厚的文學和專業修養,得之於他們對書籍文本內涵的熱情和感動。

書籍插圖藝術的精彩表現,不僅讓書籍空間熠熠生輝,更是對書籍文本內涵的無限延展。

德國著名書籍藝術家、教育家卡伯爾教授說:“書籍各部分應該有統一的美學構思,設計的各個要素必須相互協調。”書籍插圖作為書籍設計的要素之一,雖然可以作為獨立的藝術來欣賞,但它依附與書籍物質本體的特性,決定了其圖形的色彩、大小、構圖、表現技法等都必須適應書籍的整體氣質。
