The binding method of books and periodicals by Shenzhen Buke Printing Company
Book binding technology originated before the invention of printing technology. The form of book binding in China roughly started with simple binding such as turtle book and simple strategy, and developed into ancient binding forms such as warp binding, spiral binding, butterfly binding, harmony binding, back binding, and thread binding through scroll binding. Modern binding mainly includes forms such as paperback, hardcover, and horseback binding.
1. Turtle book packaging
During the Yin and Shang dynasties from 1500 to 1100 BC, it was known as the "Turtle Book". Turtle book "is the earliest binding form in China. The materials for making turtle books are turtle shells and shoulder blades of cows and sheep. The method of making turtle books is to string together turtle shells and animal bones with engraved characters.
2. Simplified design
Turtle books are bulky, so people gradually replaced oracle bones with bamboo and wood as materials to record characters. People who write characters on bamboo strips are called bamboo slips, and those written on wooden boards are called bamboo slips, collectively referred to as bamboo slips, as shown in Figure 5-17. For the convenience of collection, the bamboo and wood slips that have been written are pierced with holes on both the top and bottom, and woven together one by one using silk thread, leather, or rattan. This type of woven bamboo and wood slip is called "Ce" or "Jian Ce". Sometimes, at the beginning of a strategy, two blank slips without words are added to protect the main text, which are called redundant slips
3. Scroll installation
Around the end of the Spring and Autumn Period and the beginning of the Warring States Period, China began to use silk to write books, which is a form of book in which characters and images are written and painted on silk fabrics. This is called silk books. The binding method of silk books is relatively simple, and the vast majority of them are rolled up, that is, after being written, they are still rolled up from the end to the front, hence the name scroll binding,
4. Whirlwind gear
The biggest drawback of scrolls is that they are very inconvenient to read. Spiral wind packaging is the earliest form of book in the form of pages, which developed on the basis of scroll packaging. The binding method of Shenzhen Buche Printing Company is to use a long strip of paper slightly wider and thicker than the book page as the base, and then stick the entire front page with single-sided writing on the right side of the base paper. As the other pages are written on both sides, a piece of paper is stuck from the blank space on the right side of each page, and each leaf is staggered and stuck on the base paper outside each page.
5. Folding and installation
Folding packaging, also known as page packaging, is the process of folding a long strip left and right continuously according to certain rules to form a rectangular fold. In order to protect the front and back pages from wear and tear, Shenzhen Buche Printing Company also sticks two thick layers of paper as protective covers, also known as book covers. Because this method was first used in Buddhist scriptures, it is called scripture folding,
6. Butterfly costume
Butterfly costume, also known as butterfly costume. The production process of butterfly clothing is to fold each printed book page towards the side where the text is printed. The fold line must be on the midline of the middle seam of the page, and then stick the seam to a piece of paper used to wrap the back. This type of bound book has a central opening when opened, with the pages spread out to both sides like a butterfly spreading its wings, hence the name Butterfly Set.
