Principles of Composition for Packaging Box Plate Design
Reasonable and clever arrangement and combination of visual elements of packaging boxes to present novel and ideal effects must follow certain principles of composition.
(1) Integrity
The complex visual elements of packaging, such as color, graphics, trademarks, and text, must be displayed on this small stage of packaging and instantly convey their own characteristics among a large number of similar products. Undoubtedly, this requires designers to grasp the principle of holistic composition. To determine a good composition tone, all visual elements should be composed towards this tone
Align the packaging to present a clear overall feeling at a glance.
In the overall arrangement of visual elements in packaging, it is important to focus on the theme and highlight the main parts, while the secondary parts should play a supporting role, so that the relationships between different parts can be coordinated and unified. The relationship between visual elements of packaging is quite complex, with single textual elements including brand, product name, factory address, specifications, usage, dosage, and so on. They need to be coordinated and handled when they are formed. In addition to text, there are other colors, graphics, etc. on the packaging, which means that the relationships between various elements also need to be coordinated with each other. The most easily understood and applied coordination method is to identify and display their "commonalities" among all constituent forms, reduce and weaken their differences, as the saying goes, "seek common ground, preserve differences", so that the visual effect of packaging is organized, orderly, and has a unified and harmonious beauty.
(2) Vividness
A design that is too conventional will only give people a plain and unremarkable feeling. In order to break the overly conventional and monotonous situation, it is necessary to increase creative design forms. In addition to many expressions in graphics, text, and color, various breakthroughs have also been made in form, shape, and function.
The application of the principle of contrast is one of the important forms of planar composition, and its contrast form can be described as very free. It can be said that any two elements in the layout can produce different contrasts. Comparisons in form (such as curvature, radius, size, length, etc.), color (such as warmth, brightness, freshness, etc.), quantity (such as quantity, density, etc.), quality (such as elasticity, softness, etc.), space (such as virtuality, distance, etc.), and posture (such as movement and stillness) all create strong visual points. Therefore, applying the principle of comparison can make the layout more beautiful.
