對紙張施膠處理,目的就是要使紙張獲得憎液性能。紙張具有一定的憎液性,就可減少液體在紙表的擴散和向紙里的滲透。對於未施膠的紙張,由於纖維素和半纖維素為極性親水性物質,液滴在紙面上將完全擴散,向里滲透也十分迅速。對於施過膠的紙張,紙張錶面或裡面就會沉積膠料物質,液體再接觸紙面,其擴散就會大大減少,滲透也變得更慢。施過膠的紙張印刷油墨後,因圖文油墨在紙表和紙里的擴散滲透率低而能保持色彩較真實和亮麗。

根據施膠要求的效果不同,施膠主要有在紙張內部施膠和紙張錶面施膠兩種

內部施膠是將膠料加入紙漿中,再抄製成內部具有較強憎液性的成品紙。如輕型紙為保持錶面粗糙且松厚度較高,需要進行紙張內部施膠,這樣輕型紙印刷後油墨印跡才不會滲透到背面。再如一些食品包裝紙,也需要進行內部施膠,這樣膠料在紙表的沉積就極少,不會污染食品,同時也能阻止水分滲透,到了保鮮防潮的作用。


紙表施膠是在紙張抄制基本成型後對紙張錶面進行的膠料
塗布處理。紙表施膠能改善紙張印刷性能,提高紙張錶面強度減少紙表毛細孔,提高抗油抗水性,減少滲透性等。
