概括性的象形是指一種或一組具體形象在整體上勾畫出對象的輪廓,或局部突出某種典型的形象,使受傳者在視覺上直接把握所指稱的對象,並理解其中所包含的意義。

概括性的象形是指一種或一組具體形象在整體上勾畫出對象的輪廓,或局部突出某種典型的形象,使受傳者在視覺上直接把握所指稱的對象,並理解其中所包含的意義。

它的特點是直接摹寫客觀對象的視覺形象,僅做一些簡化和壓縮性的處理這種攝取、儲存以至交換信息的方式是最為簡單的,幾乎對受傳者的文化水平無任何要求。事實上,在人類早期,原始人已經採用了這種簡單的視覺符號傳播,因為當時的文字形式就是概括性的象形文字。

就表現範圍說,概括性象形的對象可以是客觀實在的對象,如天上的日月星辰,地上的山川河海、草木鳥獸,以及人、食物、衣飾、屋宇、器物等,也可以是一些運動、變化、動作和活動,如日出日落、舟行車移、生物生長、吹風下雨。
